PAINT CORRECTION FAQ’S

All the most popular questions, answered.

Before we answer your questions, lets give you an overview of the steps we take to prepare your car for a paint correction of any kind. These steps are essential to achieve the best possible results.

SAFE WASH

We carefully and thoroughly wash your vehicle using safe wash methods to ensure no unwanted defects are introduced to the paintwork.

STEP 1

STEP 2

LIQUID DECONTAMINATION

Following the contact wash, we will use 2 forms of liquid decontamination to break down and remove unwanted tar and brake dust deposits

STEP 3

MECHANICAL DECONTAMINATION

The above processes are good for removing surface contamination but do not remove embedded contamination such as exhaust fumes, brake dust, industrial fallout. For this we use a clay bar to manually remove the contamination from every inch of the paint work.

STEP 4

MEASURE PAINT

We will now take a number of paint thickness measurements to establish the amount of paint on the car and how much machine polishing we can do. This will also reveal whether there has been any repairs that we need to be aware of.

STEP 5

TEST AREA

We will now perform a series of tests using different combinations of machine polishers, polishing pads and polishing compounds until we achieve the desired results.

STEP 6

GET TO WORK

The whole car will now be machine polished using a range of machine polishers of varying sizes to ensure we can access all the painted surfaces.
  • These goes by many names depending on who you speak to, essentially a stage 1/paint enhancement is a light machine polish to improve the colour and clarity of the paint work without focusing on the removal of defects. This option is popular with people that have just bought a ‘new to you’ car and want to improve the condition of the paintwork without resorting to the cost of a full correction. Typically a stage 1 paint correction will cost anywhere from £200-£400 depending on the location and experience of the technicians completing the work.

  • This is where the paint correction gets serious. The aim here is to remove approx 80-90% of light defects. We will typically perform 2 stages of machine polishing. The first is an aggressive form of polishing to remove defects such as swirl marks, marring, stains, bird lime etching. Because of the aggressive nature of this step, we then follow up with a polishing and/or refining stage to remove the marks caused by the first stage. This will leave your paintwork looking like new.

  • It is recommended that once we have completed a paint correction to apply some form of paint protection. For the daily driver we would recommend a ceramic coating, this will help to keep those light scratches and swirl marks from coming back again, and will help to keep your car cleaner for longer. If you’re looking to prevent physical damage such as stone chips/ scratches etc then we can install paint protection film (PPF).
